Traditional folk music is a valuable heritage of our ancestors which is still transferred orally and plays an important role in the preservation of our tradition. Traditional folk music positively affects the overall development of a child and it is one of the important elements in the development of a child‟s identity. The aim of this work is to empirically examine and determine the prevalence of traditional folk music in everyday kindergarten activities and examine the kindergarten teachers‟ motivation for and children‟s interest in engaging in those types of activities. The research was conducted on the sample of 12 kindergarten teachers from „Smjehuljica‟ kindergarten and on children aged 3 to school level in a subsidiary facility „Šestinski kišobran‟. The kindergarten „Smjehuljica‟ operates in 4 facilities in the Zagreb city area. The facility „Šestinski kišobran‟ implements an ethno-program whose aim is to introduce children to active experience, realization, expression and creation of the traditional heritage. The results of the research show that the kindergarten teachers highly estimate and recognize the value of folklore in that in activities with traditional dances children develop motor control and that doing music activities from the field of traditional folk music with children positively affects the development of sensibility for the preservation and care for the music heritage.
