The paper consists of a theoretical part in which the picture book is described and explained, its educational role and the traditional and contemporary understanding of the picture book. Special emphasis is placed on the interactive picture book, and accordingly, the paper analyses and interprets eleven interactive picture books in a way that examines their suitability for children of early and preschool age. Also, this paper examines all the possibilities that an interactive picture book provides to the reader. The picture books that are analyzed are picture books from the series Priče iz Žirove šume by Julie Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler, picture books by several authors of text and illustrators Zdenko Bašić and Manuel Šumberac Snjeguljica, Pinokijeve pustolovine and Alisa u Zemlji čudesa and picture books from the series Orkestar priča priču by several authors of text and illustrator Jessice Courtney-Tickle. The analysis of the picture book concludes that the picture books from the series Priče iz Žirove šume are suitable for young children, the picture books from illustrators Zdenko Bašić and Manuel Šumberc are suitable for preschool children, and the picture books from Orkestar priča priču are suitable for children other than preschool and young children with story adjustment. Interactive picture books offer the reader a new and special experience of the picture book because it has not only a verbal and visual dimension, but also a tactile and auditory.
