Communication is an essential part of every social relationship, as well as the relationship between the educator – mentor and the student of the mentoring process. The starting point of this paper goes from the determination of communication and its factors and the concepts of a mentor and a mentoring process. The paper is concerned with the opinions and thoughts of the students of early and preschool education studies and the educators – mentors on the quality of communication in the mentoring process. The method used in the research was a survey which involved 33 educators – mentors, the average being 41 years old and 41 students of the third and the fourth year of the Early and Preschool Education Studies of the Faculty of Teacher Education in Rijeka the average being 21 years old. The basic research results demonstrate that the students and the educators – mentors have similar opinions and thoughts on the quality of communication in a mentoring process. The significant differences can be noticed in the preparation for consultations, the location od the consultations and the communication skills that are considered to be important for a quality communication.
