Abstract
Jedan od vrhunskih književnika 20. stoljeća, Roald Dahl, ostavio je svoj trag u svijetu dječje književnosti i književnosti za odraslu publiku. Veliku svjetsku slavu postigao je poznatim dječjim romanima poput "Charlie i tvornica čokolade", "Matilda", "James i divovska breskva" i brojnim drugima. Roald Dahl je poznati pisac fantastike u kojoj se naziru elementi humora, groteske, rasizma, vulgarnosti i nasilja. Iako je često bio kritiziran zbog osebujnog stila pisanja, njegova djela nisu izgubila na popularnosti. Baš suprotno, Dahlova su djela i dalje česta sastavnica među čitateljskom publikom. Ovaj rad bavi se analizom djela koje je napisao Roald Dahl. U radu se također osvrćem na česte kritike koje je Roald Dahl zaprimio zbog pojave rasizma, vulgarnosti, nasilja, karakterizacije likova i specifičnog stila pisanja. Isto tako, analiziram i filmske ekranizacije njegovih djela, kao i prikladnost njegovih djela za djecu razredne nastave.
Abstract (english)
One of the best writers of the 20th century, Roald Dahl, has left a big mark in the world of children’s literature and literature for adults. His world fame came from his famous children’s novels Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach and many others. Roald Dahl is famous for writing fantastic stories with elements of humor, grotesque, racism, vulgarity and violence. Even though he was often criticized over his peculiar style of writing, his works never lost popularity. Quite the opposite, Dahl’s works are still often read by many. This thesis presents an analysis of Roald Dahl’s works. It also presents common critiques that Roald Dahl received because of racism, vulgarity and violence in his books, and because of his characterization and specific style of writing. I have also analyzed some film adaptations of Dahl’s works and wrote about the suitability of his works for elementary school students.
