Folklore Society Orlec comes from the village of Orlec on the island of Cres. It is dedicated to preserving the traditions, customs, costumes, dance, songs, and instruments characteristic of that area. The aim of the thesis is to explore the tradition upheld by this folklore society and analyze the history, present, and future of passing down the tradition to the youth. By collecting facts and oral traditions, the attitudes of residents towards customs will be explored, as well as the experiences of folklore society members regarding the development of folklore over the years. Additionally, the unique aspects of the island of Cres and the village of Orlec, such as customs and language, will be highlighted and explained. The central part of the thesis will cover the establishment, work, and activities of the Folklore Society Orlec, emphasizing the importance of accepting and nurturing tradition on the island of Cres. The final section will address the challenges of retaining and recruiting new members for folklore. It will also showcase the development of folklore in schools and the role of schools in passing down tradition to younger generations.
